Eurocopter hands over new EC135 to West Midlands Police Air Support Unit
Farnborough, 19th July 2010
On July 19, a brand new EC135 P2i was handed over to Assistant Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, Sharon Rowe, on the EADS/Eurocopter booth No. G12 in Hall 4 at the Farnborough International Air Show. The order for this aircraft had been placed in September 2009.
Markus Steinke, Managing Director of Eurocopter UK Ltd., stated, "I am very proud that West Midlands Police has again opted for the EC135, having had its former helicopter destroyed by arson last year. We had been able to deliver a police-configured interim EC135 right after the incident to keep our customer flying, and are pleased to hand over the new one today, less than one year after the order was signed. Our products and services have become the backbone of UK air support since many decades and we are ready to accompany the evolutions of our customers' needs."
The EC135 is the prime choice of UK police air support units. It has become an outstanding product created in an intensive dialogue with the end user and based on Eurocopter's
- long experience in police mission system design and integration
- deep understanding of the helicopter platform
- many years of in-service feedback.
Eurocopter products represent 75% of the UK police helicopter fleet in service and have proven to be the favourite solutions for police air support all across Europe and worldwide. In 2010, a total of six police helicopters are being delivered by Eurocopter UK to police services in the British Isles.
In order to optimize its service to the UK police forces, Eurocopter UK has introduced a new maintenance concept, separating the high-time, high-utilisation, high-tech police helicopters from the VIP/corporate maintenance section in the company. Fast turn-around times and optimal, specialized service for the individual needs of each customer group are the aim of this new arrangement. Eurocopter UK also provides full PbH and engines fleet management to the air support units.

Eurocopter to highlight its United Kingdom market leadership and extensive in-country footprint at the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow
Farnborough, 16th July 2010
The presence of Eurocopter at this year's Farnborough International Airshow will emphasize the company's strong position in the UK marketplace, where its helicopters constitute the largest rotary-wing aircraft fleet in the country.
Eurocopter and its Eurocopter UK Ltd. subsidiary are represented on the Farnborough exhibit stand of parent company EADS (Booth G12, Hall 4), where an EC135 for the West Midlands Police is to be officially handed over to the customer on July 19.
Today, Eurocopter products are vital for the functioning of the United Kingdom, with 450 helicopters in operation with over 130 customers. They represent 70% of the country's emergency medical service (EMS) fleet, 75% of the police and law enforcement helicopter inventory, and approximately 80% of the offshore oil and gas fleet. Furthermore, they are widely used for pipeline and power line control, as well as for lighthouse maintenance and other important utility missions. Eurocopter's EC135 was the first helicopter used to establish offshore wind farm support in the country. Additionally, 100 Eurocopter helicopters provide significant transport and training capability to the UK military forces.
With its modern product line, Eurocopter has responded to the increasing security requirements of the British Isles and elsewhere by adapting its light twin-engine helicopter family to meet the requirements of homeland security and emergency medical services operators. In the UK and Ireland, twin-engine Eurocopter models have been used for police air support and EMS operations during the past 30 years, beginning with the BO105, AS355 and BK117, and followed by the EC135 and the EC145 since the mid 1990s.
The UK's corporate and private sectors have been traditionally strong and demanding markets, to which Eurocopter's large, well-tailored product range, as well as the unique local customization capability at Eurocopter UK's Oxford headquarters, respond perfectly. More than 200 corporate and private helicopters in the UK and Ireland are Eurocopter products.
"With the largest overall helicopter fleet in the British Isles, delivering a vital contribution to the UK nation and its citizens each day, we are committed to serving our customers locally, and thus have expanded our onshore capabilities significantly in the past few years," said Markus Steinke, the Managing Director of Eurocopter UK. "In addition, we have begun to export made-in-the-UK Eurocopter solutions to the rest of the world, and further investments will increase our local presence even more."
Since 2008, Eurocopter UK's Oxford headquarters has been grown by 25,000 square feet of industrial surface. As a key element of the Eurocopter Group's logistical, industrial and technical supply chain, the Oxford base has expanded into pilot training with the opening of a Type Rating Training Organization for the EC120, AS350, EC130, AS355 N, EC135, EC145 and EC155, with CAA airworthiness certification granted one year ago.
The logistical services offered at Oxford are further refined with paperless spares ordering and individual customer performance reviews, as well as on-site support at RAF Benson. In addition, its MRO services have now separated maintenance flows for private/corporate customers and police/utility customers, guaranteeing quick turn-around times and dedicated expertise for the approximately 60 helicopters returning to Eurocopter UK regularly for maintenance, as well as for any other ad-hoc customer.
Based on its renowned design and customization capability accumulated over more than 30 years of experience, Eurocopter UK has become a Eurocopter Design/Completion & Retrofit Centre, creating solutions for all kinds of missions ranging from VIP, police, fire fighting, EMS and utility to military applications. To date, individual customizations and retrofits have been delivered to customers in 23 countries including in the Americas, the Middle East, Japan, China, South Africa, Norway, Italy, Spain and Poland.
A new purpose-built 20,000-sq.-ft. logistics and technical support centre at Aberdeen, Scotland began providing state-of the art service support earlier this year for offshore helicopter operators in close proximity to their operations.

Devon & Cornwall Police takes delivery of a new EC145 helicopter
Oxford, 05th March 2010
On Friday 5th March the Devon & Cornwall Police took delivery of a new EC145 helicopter. This most modern machine was customised at Eurocopter UK in Oxford to meet the demanding needs of the modern police service. It is equipped with the latest aids to police reconnaissance and airborne crime fighting. Included is a state-of-the-art Infra Red camera, sophisticated video viewing and recording equipment, and night vision goggles which enable the crew to see at night almost as well as in the day.

This EC145 was ordered in September 2007, after the police aviation specialists had assessed all the competition, as the finest helicopter available to serve the public of Devon and Cornwall. It replaces another Eurocopter helicopter, the earlier BK117 which has seen sterling service for over 12 years. The Devon and Cornwall Police are pioneers of police aviation in the UK and have operated helicopters in support of police activities for more than 25 years.
The introduction into service of this new EC145 by the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, due to its increased load carrying capacity, represents a further major development of the use of Eurocopter products as a cost-effective and flexible application of helicopters in support of future police ground operations and strategy. It is capable of 2 crew operation, a pilot and an observer who can operate either out of the cockpit or in the cabin of the helicopter.
Eurocopter products represent 75% of the UK police helicopter fleet in service and have proven to be the favourite solutions for police air support all across Europe. The EC145 is a top performer in police and homeland security missions, is also operated by the Metropolitan Police and features high commonality with its slightly smaller sister the EC135. Furthermore, it is under delivery to the U.S. Army as its new-generation Light Utility Helicopter (LUH).
Markus Steinke, Managing Director of Eurocopter UK, stated, “It is a pleasure to see the UK police force community moving forward and shaping the future. Our products and services which have become the backbone of the UK air support for many decades will be ready to accompany the evolutions of our customers' needs."

Eurocopter and United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence sign Contract for Royal Air Force Puma Life Extension Programme
London/Oxford, 29th September 2009
Eurocopter UK Ltd. and the British Ministry of Defence signed a contract on September 18 for the Life Extension Programme for 28 of the Royal Air Force's fleet of Puma Mk1 helicopters. The upgraded Pumas, which will be designated Puma HC Mk2, will consequently offer significantly enhanced performance and operational capabilities, thus being capable of remaining in service until at least 2022. The contract is valued at £220 million (€250 million) and is due to be completed by December 2014.
The programme is based on comprehensive upgrades, including new Turbomeca Makila 1A1 engines, a glass cockpit, new communications, navigation and defensive systems, and a digital autopilot. The Puma HC Mk2's performance and payload will be substantially increased, particularly in hot and high conditions. As a key pillar of the Royal Air Force's fleet of medium lift helicopters, Puma continues to play a major role in operational theatres, delivering very high operational readiness levels. Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling commented, "This contract represents an important new phase in Eurocopter's long lasting and maturing relationship with the UK Ministry of Defence. We will bring to this programme our extensive experience in upgrading and enhancing helicopters, and in adapting them to the new scenarios and challenges arising from present and future deployment."
Markus Steinke, Managing Director of Eurocopter UK, added, "As the British pillar of the Eurocopter Group, we are proud to sign this major contract strengthening our industrial expansion in the UK even more and enabling us to develop a widening partnership with the MoD, also in view of forthcoming new helicopter programmes such as Future Medium Helicopter (FMH)."

Designer Helicopter or bespoke Solution – Eurocopter displays versatile Array of VIP/Corporate/Private Helicopters at Helitech
Duxford, 22nd September 2009
With an Hermès-designed EC135 taking centre stage on Eurocopter's booth (#906) at Helitech, and a VIP EC155 B1, a corporate EC130 and a private EC120 in its Static Display, the company shows fine examples of its ability to fully adapt to individual customers' requests. Be it functional-stylish or luxurious, small or big, Parisian design or British craftsmanship - Eurocopter UK offers bespoke solutions.
The corporate and private market in the UK has been traditionally a strong and demanding market to which Eurocopter's large, well tailored product range and the unique local customization capability in Oxford responds perfectly. In a creative process customers are accompanied in their selection process, individual wishes are reflected upon in real time with the local design office and new solutions are born making the final product a unique creation emanating the customer's vision. In such a way, Eurocopter UK's Customization Centre has delivered bespoke VIP solutions to all 5 continents in various forms of finishing. In the UK and Ireland, more than 200 corporate and private helicopters are Eurocopter products. On a global scale, Eurocopter Group sold 150 business helicopters in 2008, which equals 20% of its total sales and highlights the immense potential of this market segment.
Eurocopter offers its entire product line to this particular market segment. From the light, single-engine EC120, AS350 and EC130 for private and small business operators, to the light to medium class twin-engine EC135, EC145, AS365 and EC155 B1 for top-of-the-range VIP and corporate customers up to the 11-tonne, twin-engine EC225 for governmental flight operators, every aspect of business aviation can be covered. This comprehensive product line will soon be joined by the medium twin EC175 which is due to make its maiden flight by the end of this year. In its corporate layout, the EC175 seats 10-14 passengers depending on configuration.
For business travellers, rotorcraft represent the ideal "first-mile, last-mile" transportation solution, providing swift, streamlined transit between company headquarters and airport – whether to make a vital commercial flight connection, or to board the company jet. Rush-hour traffic, the increasing burdens of airport security, and other common sources of delay are eliminated, providing critical extra time to focus on work at hand. Corporate and private owners also value the helicopter's ability to connect destinations separated by short to intermediate distances, making it, in many scenarios, a practical and valuable substitute and/or complement for fixed-wing aircraft.
The customer base in this market is demanding. Commercial business helicopters must have CAT A performance, high cruise speed, single-pilot IFR capability with JAR Ops 3 compliance, executive appearance and the latest technology available – much like what the customer would expect from a jet. Low noise signature and safety – ensured by redundancy of vital systems as well as availability of simulator training for crews – are key elements in the customer's choice. In the light corporate/private market segment, CAT B with power reserve, high cruise speed, comfort, low noise signature and VFR operation with JAR OPS compliance are decisive purchase factors. Eurocopter's state-of-the-art product line meets all of these requirements.
Eurocopter's EC135 "L'Hélicoptère par Hermès" makes first UK Appearance at Helitech
Duxford, 22nd September 2009
Eurocopter has chosen Helitech 2009 as platform to present the EC135 "l'Hélicoptère par Hermès" for the first time in the United Kingdom. The aircraft is on display on the company's booth #906. Eurocopter and Hermès created this state-of-the-art aeronautical product that is harmonised and blended to suit the needs of VIP and business travellers who enjoy travelling in style. It brings an ultimate exclusivity to the vast portfolio of options Eurocopter UK offers to its VIP customers in the British Isles.
The Narita Airline Connection Service in Tokyo, a new helicopter transportation service set up by Mori Building Co. Ltd. and Mori Building City Air Service Co. Ltd of Japan, has just launched – on September 16 – a helicopter service from busy Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo offering an EC135 "l'Hélicoptère par Hermés" for the ride. The 78-km trip which takes around 90 minutes by bus is cut down to 30 minutes by the helicopter which clearly meets the high standards of globetrotting VIPs and business executives.
In the United Arab Emirates, Falcon Air Services of Abu Dhabi have been operating a "l'Hélicoptère par Hermès" since May 2009 for executive transport missions, offering a unique travelling experience to its customers. Eurocopter has sold a total of five "Hermès EC135s" to date.
"L'Hélicoptère par Hermès": elegance in motion
"L'Hélicoptère par Hermès" is a singular experiment in collaborative engineering and design which was not founded on a straightforward combination of skills, (technical on one hand and "decorative" on the other) but on a truly mutual evolution of dialogue and research between Eurocopter engineers and Hermès designers and craftsmen. The key concept of "l'Helicoptère par Hermès" is: the passenger is all important. Issues of style versus engineering are resolved to provide an uncompromisingly user-centric experience.
Based on the EC135, the world leader in the new generation of light, twin-engine helicopters, "l'Hélicoptère par Hermès" unites the most advanced aircraft technologies developed by Eurocopter with the savoir-faire of Hermès, which has accompanied discerning travellers for more than 170 years.
Combining a spacious cabin with a seating capacity for four passengers, ample storage compartment and lateral sliding doors, the EC135 - Eurocopter's best-selling light multimission, twin-engined helicopter with an unusually low noise-signature - provided an ideal template for the Hermès designer and craftsmen. Hermès' distinctive signature is apparent across the aircraft's exterior and interior design treatment.
Sliding doors on the EC135 open to reveal an interior configuration that is pure, light-filled and unexpectedly spacious. The cabin was completely redesigned by Hermés Interior and Design to maximize available space. Canvas "Toile H", traditionally used by Hermés for travel goods, is used to cover the cockpit. Seats and banquette are handcrafted for exceptional comfort, and upholstered in calf leather, naturally grained and highly resistant. A sliding glass partition now separates the passenger compartment and cockpit, enhancing privacy while allowing light to enter from the aircraft's fore-section. The landing gear has been redesigned to allow for easier and more elegant access to the cabin.
Supporting clean Energy Production in the North Sea – Eurocopter EC135 is UK's first Helicopter for Offshore Wind Farm Maintenance
Duxford, 22nd September 2009
As the United Kingdom is set to become one of the largest offshore wind energy producers in the world, Eurocopter is well-geared to playing its part as a long-term partner in the growth of eco-efficient energy generation with its eco-efficient helicopters. An EC135, owned by Bond Air Services, is on display in Eurocopter's Static Display at Helitech. This helicopter is slotted for support and maintenance work at the Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm starting end of 2009.
The new EC135 will be used for maintenance operations, including delivery of personnel and complex equipment by winch, at the Greater Gabbard wind farm located approx. 20 miles off the East Anglia Coast. The Greater Gabbard wind farm will consist of 140 3.6MW wind turbines and will be located around two sand banks known as Inner Gabbard and The Galloper in the North Sea. When the project is completed, by the end of 2010, it is expected to be the largest wind farm in the world.
While this is the first helicopter in the UK dedicated to this special task, EC135s are already flying in wind farm support missions in the North Sea in Denmark and Germany. Uni Fly A/S of Denmark took delivery of its first EC135 in 2002 and has since flown in excess of 16,000 missions including over 14,000 hoisting operations for 80 wind farms in the North Sea. From the EC135, two technicians are hoisted two or three metres down to a specifically designed platform on the wind turbine more than 80 metres above the sea. These missions are flown predominantly in adverse weather conditions. When the sea is calm, the technicians can be taken to the wind farms by boat.
In Germany, HTM Helicopter Travel Munich GmbH has been using an EC135 for wind farm maintenance in the North Sea since April 2009. Based in the coastal city of Emden, the EC135 serves wind farms which are 50 up to 80 nautical miles offshore. To date, 153 missions have been flown and 20 staff have been trained for hoist operations, with another 15 to follow. In addition to the EC135, HTM is currently using an EC145 and an AS355 NP for personnel and cargo transports.
The ruggedness, reliability, excellent OEI (one engine inoperative) performance, excellent lateral stability and capability for right or left of the cabin winching in adverse weather conditions make the twin-engine EC135 a safe and economical choice for this demanding mission. A true multi-mission aircraft, the EC135 is in service worldwide in offshore oil and gas missions, police air support, emergency medical services and search and rescue operations. More than 800 units have been sold to date.
West Midlands Police orders new EC135 - Confirming Eurocopter as No.1 Supplier of Police Air Support Helicopters
Duxford, 22nd September 2009
At this year's Helitech, Eurocopter UK is proud to announce the order for a new EC135 for West Midlands Police Air Support Unit. On top, Eurocopter will provide, at short notice, a fully equipped EC135 police helicopter, featuring the well-known mission pod, to take over the duties of the West Midlands EC135 destroyed by fire in a recent arson attack until the new aircraft will be delivered in summer 2010. Eurocopter UK thereby demonstrates its flexibility and reactivity to customer needs.
Eurocopter's Static display at Helitech features one of the Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit's three EC145s, and the brand new EC135P2i of the Suffolk Police. These two aircraft represent the state-of-the-art generation of helicopters most frequently selected by UK Police Forces. Today, Eurocopter holds 75% of the existing UK and Ireland police air support market and reinforces its presence with eight more police helicopters to be delivered within the next two years.
The Suffolk Police EC135 was delivered in June this year and is the first out of six awarded to Eurocopter through the Police Consortium Tender in 2008. It has become an outstanding product created in an intensive dialogue with the end user and based on the Eurocopter UK's
- long experience in police mission system design and integration
- deep understanding of the helicopter platform
- many years of in-service feedback
The London "Met" was the first UK police service to put the EC145 into service in 2007. Fitted with the most advanced mission equipment, the EC145 marks a new era in Police Air Support in the United Kingdom. It serves as a key tool in the vigilance against terrorism and adds a new dimension in terms of multi-role capability and lift capacity in the 3.6 ton class. Two new EC145s are on order by the Devon & Cornwall Police and by the Police Services of Northern Ireland; in the latter case, it will complement an EC135 already in service in Belfast.
Each of the London Met's EC145 logs around 1,000 flight hours per year – a figure that is even exceeded by several of the provincial police forces operating EC135s with annual flight hours of 1,500 or more.
With its modern product line, Eurocopter has responded to the increasing security requirements in the British Isles and around the world by adapting its light twin-engined helicopter family very specifically to meet the demands of homeland security operators. The company is the world's leading helicopter supplier in this field. In the UK and Ireland, various twin-engined Eurocopter models have gone into Police Air Support operations over the past 30 years, originally the BO105, BK117 and AS355 and, since the mid-1990s, the EC135 and more recently EC145. The EC135 is the reference helicopter for police surveillance throughout the British Isles. The EC145, a larger complement to the EC135, is a platform designed with total multi-mission capability in mind and is capable of carrying one or two pilots and eight or nine passengers. The EC145 is a top performer in police and homeland security missions. It is also under delivery to the U.S. Army as its new-generation Light Utility Helicopter (LUH).
Markus Steinke, Managing Director of Eurocopter UK, stated, "Combining the characteristics of a helicopter with the specifics of a variety of complex mission systems in order to create a reliable, high performing, easy to use and easy to maintain, flying mission platform for the end user, which lasts over multiple decades and keeps its value, is a unique capability which only very few entities in the UK really master. We are proud to be the leader in this segment – established over many years together with our police customers".
Eurocopter highlights its UK Market Leadership and announces further Expansion at Helitech 2009
Duxford, 22nd September 2009
Eurocopter and its British entity, Eurocopter UK Ltd., emphasize their strong position in the UK market with an impressive presence at Helitech 2009. A hospitality chalet, a large booth (# 906) with the EC135 "L'Hélicoptère par Hermès" as centre piece, and a large array of eight state-of-the-art helicopters in its Static Display demonstrate the company's rank as biggest supplier of helicopters to the UK. On show are: A London "Met" EC145, an EC135 by Suffolk Police, the UK's first helicopter - an EC135 - dedicated to offshore wind farm maintenance, a utility AS355 NP used by National Grid for powerline inspections, and Eurocopter's latest generation of private/VIP and corporate helicopters – an EC120, EC130, and EC155 B1. An AS350 BB of the Defence Helicopter Flying School and a SA330 EA Royal Air Force Puma HC Mk1 complete the line-up. Eurocopter UK's rapid expansion into the defence business, oil & gas service activities and upgrades & retrofit business leads to further growth in the British Isles.
Today, Eurocopter products constitute the biggest helicopter fleet in the UK totalling 450 helicopters with over 130 customers . Its products are vital for the functioning of the country as they represent 70% of the UK EMS (Emergency Medical Service) fleet, 75% of the police and law enforcement fleet and around 80% of the offshore oil & gas fleet. Furthermore, they are widely used for pipeline and power line control, as well as for light house maintenance and other important utility missions across the UK. Eurocopter's EC135 will be the UK's first helicopter to establish offshore wind farm support. Last but not least, 100 Eurocopter helicopters provide significant transport and training capability to the UK military forces.
2008 saw the expansion of Eurocopter UK's Oxford Headquarters by 25,000 square feet of industrial surface. In 2009, construction of a 20,000 square feet, purpose-built logistics and training centre in Aberdeen as state-of the art service support for the offshore operators was launched, which will see the arrival of an EC225 simulator in mid-2010. The execution of MoD contracts will trigger further growth of the company's facilities in Oxford.
Since Eurocopter UK became a fully-owned entity of Eurocopter in November 2007, it has been fully integrated into Eurocopter Groups logistical, industrial and technical supply chain.
It has branched out into pilot training with the opening of a Type Rating Training Organization at its Oxford base, certified by the CAA in June 2009. The logistical services are now further refined offering paperless spares ordering and individual customer performance reviews, as well as on-site support on the RAF base at Benson. In addition, its MRO services have now separated maintenance flows for private/corporate customers and police/utility customers guaranteeing quick turn-around times and dedicated expertise for the approx. 60 helicopters returning to Eurocopter UK regularly for maintenance, as well as for any other ad-hoc customer.
Based on its renowned design and customization capability accumulated in more than 30 years of experience, EC UK has become a Eurocopter Design/Completion & Retrofit Centre creating bespoke solutions for all kinds of missions ranging from VIP, police, fire fighting, EMS and utility to military applications. To date, individual customizations and retrofits have been delivered to customers in 23 countries including the Americas, Middle East, Japan, China, South Africa, Norway, Italy, Spain and most recently to Poland integrating an state-of-the-art TV/news gathering suite into a corporate EC135 maintaining the multipurpose character of the helicopter.
With its modern product line, Eurocopter has responded to the increasing security requirements in the British Isles and around the world by adapting its light twin-engined helicopter family very specifically to meet the demands of homeland security and emergency medical services operators. The company is the world's leading helicopter supplier in this field, with a global market share of 53%. In the UK and Ireland, various twin-engined Eurocopter models have gone into Police Air Support and EMS operations over the past 30 years, originally the BO105, AS355 and BK117 and, since the mid-1990s, the EC135 and more recently the EC145. The EC135, with more than 130 machines in police service all over Europe, has become the hallmark of reliable, cost effective, high tech police support. The larger EC145 is a complementary helicopter platform to the EC135, adding a new dimension in terms of multi-role and lift capacity. Within the next two years, eight new EC135s/EC145s will be delivered to the UK police forces fostering Eurocopter's leading position.
The corporate and private market in the UK has been traditionally a strong and demanding market to which Eurocopter's large, well tailored product range and the unique local customization capability in Oxford responds perfectly. More than 200 corporate and private helicopters in the UK and Ireland are Eurocopter products. The company's single and twin-engine helicopters on display at Helitech are prime examples of what this dynamic market demands today, offering comfortable transport capacity from 4 to 13 passengers in various forms of finishing from corporate, stylish-functional, VIP and even luxurious.
Markus Steinke, Managing Director of EC UK, commented: "Being at home in the UK, with the biggest helicopter fleet in the British Isles, delivering a vital contribution to the UK nation and its citizens each day, we are committed to serving our customers locally and thus have expanded our onshore capabilities significantly in the last two years. In addition, we started to export Eurocopter solutions made in the UK into the rest of the world. Further investments are launched and will increase our industrial presence even more."

Eurocopter to set up EC225 Flight Training Device in Aberdeen
17th July 2008
Eurocopter's investment in the United Kingdom is set to grow through expanded training services for its North Sea Oil & Gas customers in Scotland. The company intends to operate its first UK-based EC225 Flight Training Device (FTD) in Aberdeen through its fully-owned subsidiary, Eurocopter UK Ltd., starting in 2010. This initiative forms part of a more general widening of Eurocopter UK's footprint and capabilities: having so far operated in England, Wales and Ireland, Eurocopter UK is now also reinforcing its policy of proximity to customers and state-of-the-art services in Scotland. The FTD will be qualified to JAR FSTD Level 3 standards but will also include OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) data pack and flight loop.
"Our customers have been telling us they need easier access to training, notably to FTDs. We have listened and we are responding to those needs" explained Lutz Bertling, CEO of Eurocopter. "The strategy is in tune with Eurocopter's reinforced commitment to improving Flight Safety by providing low-cost alternatives to real flight in locations far from existing simulators. Eurocopter is fully dedicated to enlarging its service offer and ensuring its FTDs are in the right place at the right price for its customers. This is just the first step."
Installing an FTD close to a key operating hub such as Aberdeen is a major first for a helicopter manufacturer. It shows that Eurocopter takes customer satisfaction very seriously and is willing and able to invest in concrete solutions to improve the business of its customers and constantly improve the safety of flight operations.
In addition, two EC135 FTDs are becoming operational later this year in Dallas, United States and Donauwörth, Germany. The FTD localisation policy will extend to other programmes including the EC175 and Dauphin in the coming months elsewhere in the world, in particular in Dallas and South East Asia.
Eurocopter already has several training organisations within its global network and these are being reinforced. The aim of Eurocopter's training strategy is to provide local training solutions closer to customers' operations at a price and a quality that its customers will appreciate.
